While our facility is LEED certified and our office is generally paperless, we wanted to take things a step further and advance the cause of automobile efficiency. With the adoption of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) becoming commonplace, we have taken the initiative to introduce a designated parking spot for individuals with an HEV.
To provide a little insight, HEVs are, in many ways, the commercial outcome of the increased international focus on fuel economy, energy security, and emission reduction. With the implementation of public charging stations nationwide, transportation is becoming more efficient and less energy dependent. Helping advance this trend while improving our parking infrastructure is the least we could do.

Why HEV?
In 2012 alone, imports of petroleum in the United States equated to 40% of the amount of petroleum consumed. Additionally, transportation accounted for nearly three-quarters of U.S. petroleum consumption in that same year. This is just one of the many issues that Hybrid electric vehicles have been mitigating since their commercial introduction.
Led by the Toyota Motor Co. and its most ubiquitous brand, the Prius, nearly 500,000 HEVs were sold in the United States in 2013. The adoption of HEVs is becoming increasingly commonplace and accepted. In many ways, it is the commercial outcome of the increased international focus on fuel economy, energy security, and emission reduction. To help accelerate this adoption, increased attention has been placed on public charging stations and designated HEV spots. That is where Marc Allen Orthopedics is looking to make an impact.
While observing this continuing transformation of the automobile industry, MAO has decided to designate a particular parking spot to individuals with an HEV. We believe that those who are conscious in conserving energy should be able to conserve their time when visiting our practice.
